Ramsey Plus Review 2020

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more information.

Ramsey+ is Dave Ramsey’s new membership where you have access to everything you need to win with money. In this Ramsey Plus review I’ll walk you through what’s included, who it’s for, who it’s not for, and my thoughts on what’s missing.

Before I get started, I’ll be transparent that Ramsey Solutions is not paying me to say anything I’m about to say in this post. They reached out to me to give it a whirl, give them some feedback, and I’m sharing that feedback with you.

Why? Because way more people are searching for Dave Ramsey product reviews than they are Modern Frugality. #freepublicity

So let’s get started.

Ramsey Plus Review

From Financial Peace University to EveryDollar Plus, Dave Ramsey’s all-access membership site

What is Ramsey+?

Ramsey Solutions has taken the Financial Peace University membership, expanded it and renamed it Ramsey+. This is a great move for them and everyone else because the FPU membership, while it did include a year subscription to EveryDollar Plus, that’s kind of where it ended in appeal and usefulness.

You don’t need a year to go through Financial Peace and for the most part the free version of EveryDollar works just fine, I used it our entire debt payoff journey.

But it actually had some really great features that you wouldn’t buy FPU for but are actually valuable and they really did make the membership worth the cost. Those features are still there they’re just rebranded, expanded, and they didn’t even raise the price.

What’s Included in Ramsey+

Now instead of a membership based around a course, Ramsey Plus is an annual subscription to a suite of apps.

FinancialPeace

First is the Financial Peace app. This is a mobile-optimized version of Financial Peace University and four other courses.

  • Jump Start: An introduction to all the terms you’ll hear moving forward and the mindset shifts you need to make to succeed with the program.
  • The Legacy Journey: Dave’s wealth-building course
  • Smart Money Smart Kids: Six lessons to help you teach kids about money
  • Budgeting That Actually Works: A course on zero-based budgeting taught by Rachel Cruz

Ramsey+ is built around access to all of Dave Ramsey’s courses and live streams, not just the Financial Peace course. So while you can still sign up for in-person and virtual classes you get access to a roster of personal finance courses that will continue to expand. Making it useful long after you graduate Financial Peace University.

EveryDollar Plus

Next is a one-year subscription to the EveryDollar Plus app. EveryDollar Plus is now only available with a Ramsey+ membership which is great because $130 for a budgeting app is dumb.

I don’t usually say that word but Dave says it so I thought it was appropriate.

EveryDollar is my budgeting app of choice. It has the best user interface, it is the easiest to use and manage for a zero-based budget, and I recommend the free version to people who are paying off debt because manually inputting your transactions is one of the keys to becoming aware of how often and how much you are spending and that is what I’m super passionate about.

It’s one thing to make a budget but it is a whole other thing to stick to it. So if that’s what you need help with, subscribe to the Modern Frugality channel because that’s usually what I’m talking about.

EveryDollar Plus would be good for someone just starting out who maybe has never budgeted before and is not yet to the point where they can even think about tracking purchases manually. Spending a few months getting a handle on your spending life is helpful before you start making changes.

It’s like easing into a diet. We always want to change our lives in a day but change is much more effective when it’s done gradually and consistently. Otherwise your paleo on Monday and binge eating Boston Kreme’s by Wednesday.

Baby Steps App

Last is Ramsey’s newest app, Baby Steps. This is where you can track your progress on your phone.

Printed charts and stuff are great, I used a giant thermometer, but there’s also something to be said for having it on your phone for every baby step, including calculators that are specific to your numbers.

I honestly wish the app had a dedicated place just for debt-free scream videos because when I was paying off debt, I listened to Dave’s show every day mostly for the debt-free screams.

Don’t worry, Dave’s YouTube channel actually has a playlist of over 400 debt-free screams.

Ultimately, Baby Steps is a great app for anyone paying off debt. There are free alternatives, they are not as visually attractive, so if that’s what’s important to you you may prefer the Baby Steps App, but if you’re more motivated by numbers you’ll enjoy the free debt payoff trackers fine.

Is a Ramsey Plus Membership Worth it?

Here’s the real question, is Ramsey+ worth the money? It’s $129.99 per year, there are no monthly options but that’s almost $11 per month. And the answer is, yes for some, no for others.

If you just started your debt-free journey, you haven’t taken Financial Peace University, and this is all new to you but you are on fire to get your finances under control, Ramsey+ was made for you.

Now, we didn’t take it until we were mid-way through our debt-free journey and that’s only because we wanted my mom to take it so we signed up and went with her. We started by just reading Dave’s book, The Total Money Makeover.

So I think if you’re doing this with a partner, you guys are motivated self-starters and already on the right path you just need a hard plan, start with The Total Money Makeover and see if that works for you.

If you are not a big reader or don’t have the support system of a partner or small group then the membership is probably worth your money. I don’t make any money whether you buy it or not but whole membership gives you elements you, in particular, would find useful.

It gives you the FPU video course you can watch on your own time, the workbook is virtual, there’s an interactive online community, you can join virtual classes, there’s even a free 15-minute coaching call with a money mentor. It’s worth the cost to not do it on your own.

But if you’re already paying off debt, you know that baby steps, you’re budgeting, maybe having trouble sticking to it, but you’re trying and you’re getting better, then you probably don’t need it.

Again, I wouldn’t have signed up had I not wanted to take my mom through but I actually still keep up with some of the people from that course now on Facebook so even though I didn’t “need” it, I now have friends with similar financial goals which is immensely valuable on a debt-free journey.

So I hope you found this Ramsey Plus review helpful and don’t let cost be a barrier to benefiting from this great product. And if you don’t think you need it, don’t feel like it’s the only path to debt freedom. Do whatever gets you closer to your best financial life.
