We are renovating a fifth wheel RV!
I’ve been obsessed with RV living and RV renovations since we saw Jill and Eric’s RV renovation last spring.
We aren’t ready to move into one but we thought it would be a cool project to fix one up for someone else to live in!
So two weeks ago we bought a 38 foot Fleetwood Wilderness AX6 fifth wheel.
It’s so dirty, so smelly, and so ugly. It’s perfect.
And since this is all that’s on my mind the past few months I’ll share some of my RV renovation ideas and inspiration with all of you!
RV Renovation Ideas
Living Room
We got a couch on Facebook Marketplace that is our inspiration for the living space. it’s a light gray fabric that can be removed, washed, and/or replaced. It’s similar to this little nook by Us 3 + The RV.
Paint
First thing’s first, everything gets painted. I’m priming with Glidden Gripper primer and painting everything except the kitchen peninsula Ultra Pure White in a satin sheen with Behr Premium Plus Ultra.
Flooring
Standard flooring for RV renovations is a luxury vinyl plank. It’s waterproof, flexible, and sturdy enough to withstand temperature fluctuations.
After some research, I found that 4mm is the way to go for a long-lasting wood grain design. We’re gonna go with TrafficMASTER Allure Luxury Vinyl Planks which are 3.8mm. Close enough
Mountain Modern Life’s flooring tutorial is super helpful… all their videos are super helpful. If you’re doing an RV renovation you’ve probably already found them but rest assured, they’re the best.
Blinds
These blinds, that table, that light fixture. They are everything.
Entertainment Center
We ripped out the entertainment center from the back and we’re (by “we” I mean Travis) going to build a simple custom unit that takes up less wall space. I’m inspired by this one from The Arrow Anglers.
Kitchen
Paint
I want to go with a rich teal for the lower cabinets in the kitchen. Based on these inspo pics.
I originally wanted a green-hued teal to match Fleetwood’s exterior accents but then I saw THIS COLOR on Shiny House Movement’s insta and I was sold on it. It’s Tuscon Teal from Benjamin Moore.
Counters
A lot of people use marble contact paper on RV countertops. I’m wary of it and so is Cortni from The Flipping Nomad. She’s renovated a lot of fifth wheels and she installs her own laminate. It sounds harder but I think it’ll be worth it, especially because we’re selling it and if contact paper sounds sketchy to me, it’ll sound sketchy to buyers.
And if I’m feeling REALLY really good about myself, I MIGHT try this faux marble method from Earnest Home that I saw on Gypsy and a Pirate.
Backsplash
I got one pack of peel and stick subway tile. I don’t want to do too much because it’s peel and stick, but it looks so good in pictures I couldn’t pass it up.
Bathroom
We’ll carry the vinyl planks into the bathroom, and repaint the yellowing shower with Tough as Tile, from there, I’m not 100% sure what will stay and what will go.
Shower
Fleetwood Mac has a completely enclosed full bath (which is surprisingly rare in RVs) so we’re definitely ripping out the heavy glass shower encloser and replacing it with a lightweight curtain rod. Similar to what Trina Sholin did here.
Hallway
We’re going to do an accent wall in removable wallpaper but I haven’t picked a pattern yet!
Bedroom
We’re ripping out a lot of weird closets in the bedroom. The bedroom is so big and there’s so much wasted space! I’m not sure what the future holds for the bedroom but I’m loving this inspo from Honeysuckle Sweet Life.
