Hey! Welcome to Modern Frugality!
I’m honored to have you part of our community.
Here at Modern Frugality we’re all about redefining what it means to be frugal. We’re passionate about getting out of debt, spending less, and investing wisely, but we’re also about things you don’t always associate with frugal living.
I believe frugality naturally leads to minimalism. When you’re responsible with your spending, you naturally accumulate less stuff and develop an aversion to too much. So we love decluttering, organizing, and cozy living spaces. And we don’t think minimalism stops at your stuff, decluttering your schedule, mind, and technology are just as important as your home.
I believe you can’t outearn mindless spending. Side hustling and increasing your income are great but the vast majority of people aren’t broke because they don’t make enough money, they just don’t think about where their money is going. Thus frugality is essential to your financial plan no matter what your income.
And I believe strong relationships with family and friends are at the core of why we’re frugal. People are the reason, not a hindrance to your frugal lifestyle. Spending less means you require a smaller income and that means more time with the people you love.
About Me
I’m Jen.
When my husband Travis and I got engaged in 2015 he immediately told me he wanted to pay off his student loans.
I immediately told him no.
I was (ok, still am) stubbornly set in my ways. I didn’t want to waste my 20’s living under a rock just to pay off debt that everyone else seemed to be fine living with.
I truly thought that living life to the fullest meant living paycheck-to-paycheck.
So we started down a seemingly impossible road to pay off $78,000 of debt. We got extra jobs, stopped eating out, used our neighbor’s internet — even though it only worked in one room of our small apartment.
I learned things about myself, my friends, my family, and my spouse that could have otherwise taken me decades to learn.
As we got better at buying less, saving more, and making money, the journey we thought would take 4-5 years took 23 months.
Those two years were transformative and I continue to learn better today because of them. My reliance on stuff is less, my relationships are stronger, I don’t stress about money!
I want everyone to experience the freedom that comes from having control of your spending, a clear plan and execution for your finances, and the ability to help those around you do better!
That’s how you ended up here. This is my corner of the internet to help you on your journey to a financial awakening. Whether you’re paying off debt, trying to stick to a budget, or still figuring out what to do next with your money.
